And in that moment, we all thought (including Will) that Hannibal was going to kiss his Murder Husband.
Hannibal’s face makes me so sad in this. His face muscles are strained, his lips are stiff, he’s so obviously trying not to cry and he just looks so human. And you can tell from the look on Will’s face that he’s seeing Hannibal’s humanity for the first time as well. And he’s in awe.
Direct eye contact! Will is feeling all Hannibal’s pain in that moment. They’re both so truly connected in the sadness that Will cannot even bring himself to raise his gun.
Its amazing how, despite really KNOWING it wouldn’t happen, as canon as Hannigram is—and it is canon, just maybe not in the way that most people have come to think of “canon”—a sexual aspect, even as much as only a kiss, to their relationship has pretty much been said its not going to happen, even with that sexually-charged undertone a lot of their interactions have—we all seemed to have, in that moment, expected a kiss.
Having not read the books or even seen the movies—and by seen I mean *really* watched them—I still knew that Hannibal gutted Will eventually. I knew it was coming. I could feel it, but as soon as Will walked into that kitchen and said “You were supposed to *leave*…” and Hannibal brought his hand up to his face and caressed him so lovingly, but heart-broken, more human than he ever has been in the show and has been in a long time, I expected it less than I expected a kiss. Wow. I mean I seriously expected a kiss, even if just on the forehead. I remember the exact feeling I had. It was warm, as if I was expecting someone to kiss *me* and I’ve NEVER experienced that feeling before with any other pairings I ship. Not one.
I don’t know how Bryan, Mads, and Hugh have done it but man… I have to applaud them. I was resistant to Hannigram at first, but now look at me. I ship them harder than I have any other pair and I have dozens of pairs over many different shows/movies/books from many different countries. They have created something so far *more* than anything else.
